Adjunct Professor, accompanying Jackson W. Henry is a church musician and pianist originally from Kingsport, Tennessee. He now serves in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church as Director of Music Ministries, and also at Middle Tennessee State University as Adjunct Accompanist on the Keyboard Faculty of the MTSU School of Music. He is a graduate of the Master of Sacred Music program at Perkins School of Theology/Meadows School of the Arts, Southern Methodist University, where he received the Prothro Promise for Ministry Scholarship, the Roger Deschner Prize in Sacred Music, and the Master of Sacred Music Award. While at SMU, he was also Assistant Director of the Seminary Singers under Dr. C. Michael Hawn. Before coming to Murfreesboro, Henry served as Director of Music Ministries at the United Methodist Church of the Disciple, DeSoto, TX. He also holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from Tennessee Technological University, where he studied with Drs. Catherine and Herman Godes. While At TTU, Henry received the Joan Derryberry Award, the Charles F. Bryan Award, and the Charles C. Young Fine Arts Award. He was fortunate enough to perform the Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor of Camille Saint-Saëns with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra while living in Cookeville, Tennessee. During his time in Dallas, he participated in many recitals throughout North Texas and served as an official accompanist for the 2003 International Trumpet Guild Conference at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He has accompanied under such musicians as Anton Armstrong (St. Olaf College, Minnesota) and Stephen Cleobury (Kings College, Cambridge) and has also regularly accompanied Burt Truax, Principal Trumpet for the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, and Jon Burgess, Director of Trumpet Studies at TCU. In the summer of 2001, he was also honored to appear as an accompanist for the Choristers Guild Summer Seminar in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Henry is a member of many national honor fraternities and societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Mortar Board, and Pi Kappa Lambda. He and his wife Katie have a new daughter, Anna, and they all enjoy life with their two Golden Retrievers, Ellie and Emma. |
