VANDERBILT SCRIMMAGE
ATLANTA USAV FRIENDSHIP TOURNAMENT
UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE FRIENDSHIP
This past weekend six of the team members traveled to UT to
play in our first collegiate tournament of the year. Although we were small
in number, we were big in heart, (and shoe size). Without much practice,
and without a consistent lineup, the team managed to play relatively well,
except for one game against Morehead State for whatever reason. We focused
on having fun, staying cool, and limiting the service errors.
Surprisingly, the passing was better than expected, and Eric's sets
were very "hitable," too. Woody(#52) had a pretty good day, spicing
up the jump-serves to help the team rally to nearly upset UT's first team,
while Frank, Mike, and Rich put up a decent block all day against Purdue,
Alabama, Morehead, and UT. Everyone got a few kills throughout the day,
especially against Morehead State in the second of two games where MTSU
won 15-5.
No question, we need to have better practice sessions in order to grow
together and overcome some of the weaknesses we now face. Overall, however,
I think everyone enjoyed themselves for a change and made progress towards
a winning future.
That's my two cents, anyhow. You can reply to my penny thoughts by sending
your "Letter to the Editor."
Look for the results of our next tournament at Maxwell Air Force Base on
January 16, 1999.
