Message from the Director |
Welcome to the web site
for the School of Nursing at Middle Tennessee State University!
We are happy that you are interested in our nursing programs.
Currently, there are approximately 1,223 declared nursing majors on our
campus!
The School of Nursing
offers the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and we have both generic
(new freshman), and registered nurse (RN) students returning to school to
complete requirements for the BSN. The
RN to BSN program has grown tremendously since we initiated a completely online
program in the year 2000. Many RNs
hold full-time positions, have family obligations and take classes
simultaneously! The on-line program
has met the needs of RNs with very busy lifestyles. The convenience of taking online classes appeals to many
practicing RNs and we are happy that they chose to continue their education at
MTSU.
This fall we opened our
MSN program with concentrations in Nursing Education, Nursing Informatics,
Nursing Administration, and Advanced Practice Nursing.
This program is a consortium effort through the Tennessee Board of
Regents, and the five other universities that offer courses are Austin Peay
State University, East Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University,
Tennessee Technological University, and the University of Memphis.
Over 40 students have declared MTSU as their home school, and our
enrollment continues to climb for spring semester 2005!
The MSN-RODP will be a convenient way for many working RNs to continue
their education!
The School of Nursing
also offers two Graduate Certificate Programs in Nursing Informatics and
Critical Care Nursing. MTSU now
offers the M.S.P.S. [Master of Science in Professional Science] degree.
This degree has three major foci’s: Biotechnology, Biostatistics, and
Nursing Informatics.
The school is committed
to continuing education to meet the learning needs of RNs in practice.
Ms. Pam Roesler, MSN, works with nursing professionals in varying roles
to develop and initiate educational programs.
We provide CEUs and have provider status through the Tennessee Nurses
Association.
This past September 2, 2004 two Associate Directors were appointed to help manage the growth of our programs in the School of Nursing. Dr. Jenny Sauls has accepted the appointment of Associate Director for On Ground Programs, and Dr. Karen Ward was selected to be the Associate Director for Online Programs.
Never is the history of
the program have so many changes impacted the School of Nursing.
We are expanding our building size and will move horizontally (versus up
as we initially thought). This will
facilitate increasing the number of students to upper division nursing and
offering more courses. We hope to
break ground in 2005! Further,
we are in the midst of implementing our new 120-hour curriculum.
We hosted the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission (NLNAC)
last year and received an eight-year reaccredidation.
In 2003, we received initial program accreditation through the Commission
on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Our faculty come from across the United States and are very active in implementing new teaching strategies, professional/community/university service, and scholarship. In the past four years, faculty have been recognized for teaching excellence, instructional technology, public and community service and research.
Thanks again for joining us on our school web site! Please call 615-904-2446 if you have questions about our School of Nursing !
