Norman L. Parks Pre-Law ScholarshipThis scholarship was instituted to honor a long-time Chair of the Department who still lives in Murfreesboro. Dr. Parks was known as an outstanding scholar and as a thorough teacher of political theory and constitutional law who inspired many MTSU students to attend law and/or graduate school. Presently, this scholarship pays the tuition for the fall semester for one student entering the pre-law program each year. This money is drawn from interest on the account. If the principal can be expanded, additional scholarships can be offered. Individuals wishing to contribute to this fund should contact:
Director Harry Horne International Relations ScholarshipThis scholarship is given yearly to an incoming student majoring in International relations and pays tuition for one semester. The scholarship is named after Harry Horne, a career Canadian diplomat who taught for several years as an adjunct in the Department and who is well known for his parties at his Murfreesboro home to honor students in the international relations program. Like the Norman Parks Scholarship, this one is drawn from interest on the account. Individuals interested in contributing should contact:
Director Other ScholarshipsFrom time to time alumni ask about establishing scholarships other than those designated above. This can be done through the Development Office. Currently, Mr. Charles Ray, a prominent MTSU alumnus and Nashville attorney, supports four students each semester through the Charles Ray Pre-Law Scholarship. The Department recognizes that not everyone is able to provide this kind of support but would encourage anyone who is interested in helping students or otherwise contributing to the Department to contact the MTSU Development Office. Mock Trial TeamsMost alumni have probably heard about the success of MTSU's Mock Trial Teams. They have placed in the top 10 schools in national competition for each of the last five consecutive years and have won numerous team and individual awards. All coaching and judging is donated free of charge, but trips require support, and it is sometimes necessary to supplement funds contributed by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and the Student Government Association. The mock trial team has been established as a special non-profit activity, and an account has been set up in the MTSU development office for contributions to this fund. The team is always looking for local attorneys who might be able to volunteer some time to listen to scrimmages. The Department will host a major invitational tournament each November and will needs judges judges for this event. Any attorneys who are able to help judge are asked to contact:
