Matthew OBrien, associate professor, earned
his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and
graduated cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
While in law school, Matt was associate editor of the University
of Wisconsin Law Review.
Before coming to MTSU, Matt was vice president
of business and legal affairs for Miramar Productions in Seattle,
Washington, where he was responsible for overseeing the operations
of a BMG distributed record label, a publishing company and a
video and film production company. Prior to that, he worked in
the business and legal affairs department for Narada Productions,
a record company now owned by Virgin/EMI. After graduating from
law school, he worked for the prestigious Chicago firm of Sidley
& Austin as an associate in the marketing/entertainment division.
Matt has remained active in the recording industry
as a consultant with wide-ranging clients from artists to songwriters
to entertainment companies. He is also a member of many academic
groups, has written numerous articles for academic and industry
publications and has appeared at seminars and panels around the
world as an authority on the music business.
