Marilyn Wood, assistant professor of recording
industry, holds the Master of Music Education degree from the
University of North Texas and the Bachelor of Music Education
degree, magna cum laude, from Oklahoma Baptist University. In
addition, she is certified in Orff-Schulwerk through the Master
Class level from the University of Memphis. Marilyn's entertainment
background includes work as a demo singer, performing in a professional
entertainment duo, directing youth and children's theatre, choreographing
college musicals and a college entertainment group, acting,and
being a celebrity look-alike with the Ron Smith Celebrity Look-Alikes
in California (sidebar). Marilyn is nationally known as
a music education clinician. She has presented workshops on teaching
techniques in 25 states and 75 cities, has presented papers and
workshop sessions at six national conferences, and has been guest
conductor for honor choruses in several states. She is a composer
of children's choral music and Orff-Schulwerk arrangements. Two
of her national conference presentations were chosen to be videotaped
and are viewed internationally. Mrs. Wood's university teaching
experience began in 1976 at Oklahoma Baptist University where
she was a member of the faculty and coordinator of class piano.
Her teaching at Oklahoma Baptist University and Middle Tennessee
State University included developing and directing music preparatory
departments, instructing students from preschool through high
school ages. In the Fall of 2001, Marilyn was awarded the Distinguished
Creative Activity Award from MTSU for her work as producer of
the CD The Music of our Life and for her choral and Orff-Schulwerk
arrangements for children. In addition to university teaching,
Marilyn's background includes teaching at both the elementary
and secondary levels.
