The
Tennessee Center for Labor-Mangement Relations (TNCLMR) is funded
by a grant from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce
Development. The Center's major emphasis is on supporting cooperative
labor-management relations. Our staff or professionals associated
with TNCLMR provide on-site education and training services on labor
law, grievance mediation and arbitration. We offer training in improving
communication and leadership skills and other programming to improve
workplace relations. See Education
& Training for more information.
In
addition to our educational activities, TNCLMR assists companies
and unions or associations in the formation of joint labor-management
committees. The committees may focus on a single goal in one area
such as safety or apprenticeship certification or they may consider
broader issues that are critical to improving decision-making, reducing
costs and improving productivity.
TNCLMR
provides grievance mediation services to management and unions that
are interested in resolving their grievances and improving their
settlement activities. Except for travel expenses, the grievance
mediation services are provided at the Center's cost.
Some
of the problems that you encounter may not be directly related to
labor relations but involve issues that require specialized or technical
expertise. TNCLMR has an association with MTSU and relationships
with colleges and universities across the state. When you contact
us about these issues we will provide a list of possible experts
from colleges and universities or the private sector to address
your needs. You will be responsible for assessing the fit of the
expert to your needs and contracting with them at a mutually acceptable
fee.
TNCLMR facilitates
two major conferences a year in connection with the Tennessee Labor-Management
Conference. The summer conference will be August 16-18, 2006 at the Sheraton Music Hotel in Nashville. The Conference will feature
presentations by national experts and policymakers. Workshops on
a range of issues will provide hands-on-learning and the opportunity
for networking with other labor relations professionals. During
the Summer Conference we celebrate the best practices of Tennessee’s
award winning joint labor-management initiatives. We hope you will
mark your calendar and make plans to attend. See Conferences
for more information.
Please contact
us if we can help in any way. We look forward to sharing our
programs with you. Our goal is to help Tennessee companies be the
most productive in the marketplace and our workplaces the most exciting
and innovative places to work.
