English as a Second Language

The English Department at MTSU welcomes international students and is supportive of English Language Learners.  However, the English Department is an academic department without the resources to offer an intensive English program.   We have a few special sections of writing classes for non-native speakers of English who have been admitted to degree programs at MTSU, but we do not teach English as a second language.

If you are a degree-seeking student and want more information about special sections of English 1010 and 1020 for international students and/or have placed in English 1008 or 1009 because of English language difficulties, contact the English Lower Division Office (615) 898-2579 for any questions you may have.

If you are a prospective or conditional admission student who wants to learn English as a second language, ELS Language Centers has a program on the MTSU Campus. For more information, please contact ELS (Nashville/MTSU campus) at (615) 898-2980 or email nsh@els.edu

If you want information about international admissions to MTSU, go to the MTSU International Admissions Page or email international@mtsu.edu.

The English department is not responsible for the intensive English program and cannot help with admissions, schedule, general information and similar questions.  Please contact nsh@els.edu or international@mtsu.edu with your questions.
