Biography

Dr. Maddie Liseblad is an assistant professor at MTSU. Before joining MTSU’s School of Journalism and Strategic Media, she taught journalism and public relations at Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Dr. Maddie Liseblad is an assistant professor at MTSU. Before joining MTSU’s School of Journalism and Strategic Media, she taught journalism and public relations at Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In addition to MTSU and ASU, Liseblad has also taught at Oregon State University, Point Loma Nazarene University and Ashford University. 

Prior to joining academia, Liseblad worked in PR for 15 years. During that time, she was a corporate spokesperson for Volvo Cars at its world headquarters in Sweden, as well as a media events manager for Volvo Cars of North America. She has also been a corporate communications director for an American portable hot tub manufacturer. 

Before her PR career, Liseblad was a journalist. She has worked in television and radio, in addition to newspapers, magazines and online media. She is originally from Sweden and has worked extensively in Europe, as well as the U.S. 

Liseblad is involved with the American Journalism Historians Association, the Broadcast Education Association and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. She is the current second vice chair/research for AEJMC's history division, on the Fulbright Specialist Roster, a PhDigital Bootcamp Fellow, a MTSU Academy of Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellow, a Kopenhaver Center Fellow and the recipient of a Faculty/Industry Seminar Fellowship from the International Radio and Television Society Foundation to attend The International Consumer Electronics Show

Liseblad has a Ph.D. in journalism and mass communication from Arizona State’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, a M.A. in communication studies with a focus on media studies and international/intercultural communication from California State University, Sacramento, and a B.A. in journalism from Point Loma Nazarene University. She was the first journalism student to graduate with distinction from PLNU.

Liseblad conducts mainly historical and qualitative research centering on television news.

In the Media

Liseblad was featured in a special author interview for academic journal American Journalism. The interview focused on her love of media history and the path that led to her research interest.
