Public relations and strategic communication professors can again give their students a special experiential learning opportunity ... and support the First Amendment at the same time.
1 for All, a nonpartisan educational program based at Middle Tennessee State University’s Free Speech Center, is accepting applications for $2,000 grants to support capstone campaign classes on America's campuses.
Your class will have the First Amendment as its client. The goal is to create a campaign raising awareness of First Amendment freedoms and engaging students on your campus on the topic. The $2,000 grant can be used in any way that builds awareness. Students will have the latitude to develop a campaign that engages their interests and develops their skills in areas including, but not limited to, strategic planning, social media, advertising, media relations, audience research and analysis, graphic design, project management, and event planning.
Most schools will use the funding for promotional materials, event support, or other outreach. Classes will have until Dec. 31, 2021, to spend the funds. A brief report (no larger than 5 mb) summarizing the research, planning, execution (strategies and tactics) and evaluation elements of the campaign is due 30 days after the end of the semester in which the campaign runs. A financial memo detailing how the funding was spent must also be submitted, along with receipts or invoices to verify spending.
Note: Grant funds can't be used to pay for space or building rentals.
Every campaign submitted will be placed in a national 1 for All database available for free and public use, inspiring others to help spread understanding of the First Amendment.
Applying for the grant couldn't be easier. Just send an email to Matthew Taylor at Matthew.Taylor@mtsu.edu and advise him that you would like to participate. We’ll confirm funding in 48 hours or less.
Funds are limited, so please apply now for the spring or fall semesters.
