What is Safe Zone?

A Safe Zone or Safe Space is a place where all people feel safe, welcome, and included. The Safe Zone program aims to provide an educational lesson to the campus community. Centered around LGBTQ+ individuals and the stigma they can face in daily life. A Safe Zone emblem (shown on the right) can be found in the areas of individuals that have completed the voluntary two and a half hour Safe Zone program. This emblem represents the individual’s commitment to increase awareness, and knowledge of the LGBTQ+ community. 

MTSU Safe Zone Program

The MTSU Safe Zone program is a voluntary two and a half hour program created to develop confident, knowledgeable and effective allies of the LGBTQ+ community at MTSU. Each participant whom completes a Safe Zone Training may receive a Safe Zone emblem upon competition of the program to be displayed for others to their space is supportive and affirming. 

Safe Zone is a community of people who

will be understanding, supportive, and trustworthy if LGBT+ people need help, advice, or just someone to talk to.

will not tolerate or encourage homophobic, transphobic, or heterosexist comments and actions but will address them in an educational and informative manner.

MT Logo

have actively participated in the two and a half hour Safe Zone training and have knowledge or information on campus and community resources.

Departments That Have Participated in the Safe Zone Program

The departments listed below represent departments that have participated in the Safe Zone Program from Fall 2017-present. Each of these departments may be identified by the presence of a departmental Safe Zone placard (pictured above), indicating that there are Safe Zone trained faculty, staff, or administrators present in the office.
