In accordance with this Act, Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU or University) establishes that a drug-free workplace be maintained. The unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of any controlled substance (including prescription drugs) is banned in the workplace. Controlled substances are defined in 21 USCA \u00a7 812, and include such things as opium, hallucinogens (like marijuana, mescaline, etc.), cocaine, amphetamines, heroin, and morphine. This policy does not prohibit the lawful use of prescribed drugs which are taken under the care of a healthcare professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>II. General<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any employee determined to have violated this policy will be terminated immediately, pursuant to the applicable termination procedures. See\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/policies\/p851\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"343\">Policies 851 Disciplinary Policy for Administrative and Classified Personnel<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/policies\/p204\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"89\">204 Tenure<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/policies\/p800\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"270\">800 General Personnel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, employees are required to notify their supervisor, or Human Resource Services, of any drug convictions for violation of a criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace no later than five (5) days after the conviction.
