Carl Tipton (1923-1989), fiddle and mandolin player, song writer and pioneer bluegrass showman, was a fixture on the Middle Tennessee music scene for more than forty years. He was best known for his long-running early morning television show which aired for twenty-five years over WHTN (channel 39), Murfreesboro TN. For additional biographical information see Cart Tipton biographical vertical file.
Scope and Content
This group consists of three-quarter inch video tape cassettes of Tipton's shows which were broadcast by WHTN. Notes on the tapes indicating performers and, occasionally, song titles, were made by the Tiptons. Among the regular performers with Tipton were his wife Sophie, banjo; Leroy Troy, banjo; and Gene Wooten, dobro. Guests who appear on these tapes include Bill Carlisle, Bashful Brother Oswald, the Bell Brothers and the Nashville Bluegrass Band.
Logs of each program, including names of performers and song titles, made by Gary Ingle of the Center's audio staff follow.
Audio visual materials are filed first by format, then by tape number in the audio visual archives.
