{"id":1959,"date":"2018-01-22T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-22T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/blogtest\/capital-projects-update\/"},"modified":"2025-03-27T17:19:34","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T17:19:34","slug":"capital-projects-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/president\/capital-projects-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Capital Projects Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Here is a brief update on recent, current, and possible future construction projects on our campus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Proposed New Buildings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MTSU has two new capital outlay projects proposed for funding in 2018\u201319. No. 1 on THEC\u2019s capital project list is the new Academic Classroom Building (for the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences), which has a total project cost of $39.6 million. No. 7 on the list is a new Applied Engineering Building (for the Department of Engineering Technology), with a $54 million project cost. In order for us to receive funding for both buildings, the governor\u2019s budget must include at least $246.1 million for capital projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1321 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/president\/images\/MTSU-CBHS-Academic-Building-Rendering-1024x759.jpg\" alt=\"MTSU College of Behavioral and Health Sciences Academic Building Rendering\" width=\"580\" height=\"430\">New Academic Building for College of Behavioral and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>Construction will move forward if approved as part of the Tennessee state budget.<\/li>\n<li>The building will provide consol- idated functional areas to the Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Social Work departments, which offer highly related, integrative programs now located in multi- ple buildings across the campus. It will provide critically needed classrooms, of ces, and labs.<\/li>\n<li>Estimated completion date is Fall 2020.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Applied Engineering Building<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>Project programming is complete.<\/li>\n<li>The building will house a new center for applied engineering programs located within the Science Corridor of Innovation. It will consolidate the undergraduate and graduate programs of Engineering Technology and Mechatronics Engineering into the Department of Engineering Technology.<\/li>\n<li>The proposed location is the southern end of the East Quad. This location will group the proposed Applied Engineering Building near the new Science building to create an academic neighborhood focused on STEM and STEM disciplines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The commission also voted to recommend $8.2 million in capital maintenance funds for MTSU projects, which include Keathley University Center, Miller Education Center, and Maintenance Complex roof replacements; mechanical\u00a0and electrical updates for data and communication centers; elevator modernization phase II; and several infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Peck Hall Courtyard and Stairwell Renovation<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Peck Hall will undergo renovations to the courtyard, stairwells, and corridors as the budget allows.<br \/>\nThe estimated construction date\u00a0is this summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Middle Tennessee Boulevard Widening<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Construction continues to progress on schedule and includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety<\/li>\n<li>Landscaped medians<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated turn lanes<\/li>\n<li>Improved pedestrian walks<\/li>\n<li>Bike lanes, lighting, underground utilities, and signalized crossings at Lytle and Division<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrian and vehicular improvements, now underway at the Faulkinberry intersection and the new drop-off drive at Murphy Center<\/li>\n<li>Scheduled completion for end of 2018<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-1322 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/president\/images\/MTSU-Parking-Services-Rendering-1024x522.jpg\" alt=\"MTSU Parking Services Facility Rendering\" width=\"580\" height=\"296\">Parking and Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>Upcoming parking and transportation improvements include new and improved pedestrian walkways in the core of campus, additional parking lots, and better lighting around campus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Construction beginning this summer<\/li>\n<li>New lighting in the Greenland Drive parking lot<\/li>\n<li>New sidewalks along Alumni Drive<\/li>\n<li>Improved pedestrian area north of the Learning Resource Center<\/li>\n<li>Improved ADA walkway to the Livestock Lot<\/li>\n<li>Wider sidewalks along Founders Lane<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><strong>Parking Services Facility<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 8\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>A new parking services facility is\u00a0in the schematic design stage at this time. It will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New parking of ces and bus maintenance garage<\/li>\n<li>Around 14,000 total square footage<\/li>\n<li>Located on City View Drive between Alumni and Main<\/li>\n<li>Construction probably starting this August, with completion date of summer 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layoutArea\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here is a brief update on recent, current, and possible future construction projects on our campus.
