The accreditation granted encompasses the entire institution, including reported branch campuses, other instructional sites, online programs, and distance learning modalities. Such accrediting bodies typically accredit a wide range of institutions offering associate, baccalaureate, master&#8217;s, and\/or doctoral degrees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/laws-and-policy\/higher-education-laws-and-policy\/college-accreditation\/programmatic-accrediting-agencies#National_Institutional%23National_Institutional\">Programmatic<\/a><\/strong>, or Specialized, accrediting bodies conduct focused reviews of a single educational program and operate primarily throughout the United States, although a few operate internationally.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>MTSU&#8217;s institutional accreditor is the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The University also has many programs with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/sacscoc\/specialized_accreditations\/\">programmatic accreditation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingwhat-is-sacscoc\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-sacscoc\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-sacscoc\">What is SACSCOC?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-sacscoc\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingwhat-is-sacscoc\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>SACSCOC is the common acronym for <a href=\"https:\/\/sacscoc.org\/\">The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges<\/a>, an institutional accreditor for quality assurance in higher education. SACSCOC accredits institutions that award associate, baccalaureate, master\u2019s, or doctoral degrees, including those offered via distance and correspondence education, and direct assessment within these institutions. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among its members in the United States and international institutions of higher education approved by the SACSCOC Executive Council, Board of Trustees, and the Appeals Committee of the College Delegate Assembly.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingwhat-are-the-requirements-for-sacscoc-accreditation\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandablewhat-are-the-requirements-for-sacscoc-accreditation\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-are-the-requirements-for-sacscoc-accreditation\">What are the requirements for SACSCOC accreditation?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-are-the-requirements-for-sacscoc-accreditation\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingwhat-are-the-requirements-for-sacscoc-accreditation\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>To gain or maintain accreditation, the university must comply with SACSCOC policies, guidelines, and procedures, and with all 73 core requirements and standards contained in the&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/sacscoc.org\/app\/uploads\/2024\/01\/2024PrinciplesOfAccreditation.pdf\">Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement<\/a><\/em>. MTSU&#8217;s compliance with the requirements is evaluated and determined by peer reviewers in their professional judgment. SACSCOC\u2019s institutional accreditation includes all degree levels regardless of location or mode of instruction.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headinghow-often-must-mtsus-sacscoc-accreditation-be-reaffirmed\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandablehow-often-must-mtsus-sacscoc-accreditation-be-reaffirmed\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandablehow-often-must-mtsus-sacscoc-accreditation-be-reaffirmed\">How often must MTSU&#8217;s SACSCOC accreditation be reaffirmed?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandablehow-often-must-mtsus-sacscoc-accreditation-be-reaffirmed\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headinghow-often-must-mtsus-sacscoc-accreditation-be-reaffirmed\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>SACSCOC accreditation must be reaffirmed every 10 years, with an interim report due in year five. The process permits MTSU to document compliance with fewer Core Requirements and Standards from The <em>Principles of Accreditation<\/em> in the initial Compliance Certification. However, the Commission still requires the same reaffirmation components included in the regular process: Compliance Certification, Off-Site Review, Focused Report, On-Site Review, and Commission Review. Institutions approved for the Differentiated Review Process submit a modified Compliance Certification addressing 40 standards.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingwhat-is-the-off-site-review\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-off-site-review\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-off-site-review\">What is the Off-Site Review?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-off-site-review\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingwhat-is-the-off-site-review\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>In the fall of the reaffirmation year, MTSU&#8217;s Compliance Certification Report is reviewed by an Off-Site Reaffirmation Committee, composed of evaluators from SACSCOC peer institutions outside Tennessee. At the conclusion of the review, the Committee prepares a report explaining its findings of the university&#8217;s compliance with each Core Requirement and Standard. The Committee&#8217;s report is also provided to the On-Site Reaffirmation Committee, which travels to MTSU in the spring of the reaffirmation year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mtsu-blocks-expandable-item accordion-item expandable-heading expandable-heading-lightblock\"><h2 class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"headingwhat-is-the-focused-report\"><button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-focused-report\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-focused-report\">What is the Focused Report?<\/button><\/h2><div id=\"collapsenewExpandablewhat-is-the-focused-report\" class=\"accordion-collapse collapse expandable-content expandable-content-lightblock\" aria-labelledby=\"headingwhat-is-the-focused-report\" data-bs-parent=\"#newExpandable\"><div class=\"accordion-body\">\n<p>Upon receipt of the Off-Site Review Committee&#8217;s report, MTSU may submit a Focused Report addressing the preliminary findings and providing additional discussion and documentation of its case for compliance.
