More than 170,000 volunteers throughout the nation worked together to help improve these treasured public lands. The event was the 32nd annual National Public Lands Day (NPLD), the largest single-day volunteer event for public lands in our country.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-2-color\">Garden Extravaganza &#8211; Saturday, June 14, 2025<\/mark><\/strong><br>The event was coordinated in partnership with the Rutherford County Extension, Master Gardeners, and MTSU Stormwater to offer garden tours and speaker programs showcasing gardening tips for citizens throughout the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"791\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/stormwater\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2025\/06\/Garden-Extravaganza-flyer-2025-final-CAllen-2-pdf-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-152\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><mark class=\"has-inline-color has-accent-2-color\">Boat Day &#8211; June 21, 2025<\/mark><\/strong><br>The 17th annual Boat Day event educated the community on the importance of water quality and paddling safety. Canoes, kayaks and paddles were provided for no charge. Attendees paddled on the water, saw live fish and played games on the shore of the Stones River.  Local partners included Smyrna Stormwater and Outdoor Adventure Center, Murfreesboro Parks and Stormwater, MTSU Stormwater and Outdoor Recreation staff. A short presentation was held and participants were able to take home a free tree afterwards!<br><strong>Date: Thursday, March 13, 2025<\/strong><br><strong>Time: 5:30-7:30pm<\/strong><br><strong>Location:  SportsCom meeting room  (2310 Memorial Blvd)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeL8hqJpStlzJpn15Ei8UL-bSd4nBgGXRr8TYYh5YQOftdPzQ\/viewform\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSeL8hqJpStlzJpn15Ei8UL-bSd4nBgGXRr8TYYh5YQOftdPzQ\/viewform\">Spring Stormwater Rain Barrel Workshop<\/a> &#8211; March 20, 2025<\/strong><br>Murfreesboro&#8217;s ONLY Stormwater Workshop of the Year &#8211; for homeowners, gardeners, and those interested in protecting our local waterways and conserving water! This event wass open to the public (City and County). Limited spots\/Only 20 available, Max 2 per household<\/strong><br><strong>Date: Thursday, March 20, 2025<\/strong><br><strong>Time: 5:30-7:30pm<\/strong><br><strong>Location:  Murfreesboro Water Resources Department, Operations &amp; Maintenance Facility, 1725 South Church Street <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/outdoormurfreesboro.volunteerlocal.com\/volunteer\/?id=96509\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/outdoormurfreesboro.volunteerlocal.com\/volunteer\/?id=96509\">Murfreesboro&#8217;s Park Day Volunteer Event<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.battlefields.org\/events\/murfreesboros-park-day-volunteer-event\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.battlefields.org\/events\/murfreesboros-park-day-volunteer-event\"> <\/a>&#8211; April 12, 2025<\/strong><br>We need volunteers to help us care for our community&#8217;s public lands!<br>On Saturday, April 12, 2025, Stones River National Battlefield and our partners kicked off National Park Week by bringing the residents of Murfreesboro and Rutherford County together for a morning dedicated to properly managing the lands and waterways that are a critical part of life in in our community.<br>We joined thousands of volunteers across the nation in celebrating the 29th year of the American Battlefield Trust&#8217;s (ABT) Park Day by working to preserve and improve our public lands.<br><strong>Registration is required at <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/outdoormurfreesboro.volunteerlocal.com\/volunteer\/?id=96509\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/outdoormurfreesboro.volunteerlocal.com\/volunteer\/?id=96509\">https:\/\/outdoormurfreesboro.volunteerlocal.com\/volunteer\/?id=96509 <\/a><strong>by Wednesday April 9, 2025.<\/strong><br>We worked at Fortress Rosecrans, Old Fort Park and the Lytle Creek Greenway.&nbsp;Our focus was on removing invasive plants&nbsp;and trash from these areas. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mte.com\/RCEarthDay\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mte.com\/RCEarthDay\">Murfreesboro&#8217;s Earth Day Celebration<\/a> &#8211; April 26, 2025<\/strong><br>Come celebrate with us!<br>The 2025 Earth Day Celebration was held on <strong>Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m<\/strong>. on Rutherford County\u2019s Historic Downtown Square.<br>Rutherford County\u2019s Earth Day Celebration aims to educate and mobilize our community into action. This year\u2019s theme, \u201c<strong>Our Power, Our Planet<\/strong>,\u201d highlighted the importance of harnessing clean energy to build a sustainable future. The event aims to educate and inspire the community to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote clean energy solutions. It also emphasizes the collective \u201cpower\u201d of individuals and communities to make a positive impact on the planet.<br>Every individual can contribute to environmental conservation and sustainability efforts.
