About Us

Tracking Tennessee's Economy research is conducted by Dr. Murat Arik, director of the Business and Economic Reseach Center at MTSU in partnership with the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations.

BERC

The Business and Economic Research Center (BERC), established in 1970 at Middle Tennessee State University, conducts research on the regional economy as a public service and on a contract basis for clients from the community.

As an affiliate of Tennessee State Data Center, the BERC disseminates Census data, while providing guidance, technology, tools and expertise to local data users across Tennessee.

In addition to producing TACIR's Tracking Tennessee's Economy monthly report, the BERC publishes monthly updates and quarterly analysis in Global Commerce—Tennessee and the International Economy, edited by BERC Associate Director Dr. Steven Livingston, as well as the quarterly Housing Tennessee report in partnership with the Tennessee Housing Development Agency.

TACIR

Consisting of public officials from state and local government and private citizen members, the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) "serves as a forum for the discussion and resolution of intergovernmental problems." The 25 members of the TACIR capture the richness and diversity of perspectives of private citizens and officials representing different branches and levels of government.

TACIR has played a key role in developing many of the important public policies that have shaped state government in Tennessee since its formation in 1978.
