Contact MTSU Health Promotion at healthpr@mtsu.edu for a free promotional item.\u00a0 Let us know if you have other ideas or suggestions for how to spread the message.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Verbally challenge any misperceptions you hear about MTSU students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote and attend alcohol-free events on and off campus. Visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/whatsup\">mtsu.edu\/whatsup<\/a>\u00a0for a current calendar of events.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>People watch. Find a place to sit on campus during a class break and count the number of people you see NOT smoking.\u00a0 Share your observations with a friend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider volunteering with the Raider Health Corps. Information about this volunteer group is available at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/healthpro\">mtsu.edu\/healthpro<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Post facebook pictures and youtube videos of you and your friends having fun without abusing substances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Join a health-related student organization or sports club.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend a meeting of the Prevention Coalition for Success (PC4S). This group welcomes the input and participation of youth and college students as it works to create a healthier community.\u00a0 Meeting information is available at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadcor.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pc4s.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentor middle school and high school students. Make sure they know that alcohol and drugs don\u2019t have to be part of their future college experience.\u00a0 Don\u2019t assume they already know.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educate yourself on substance abuse and its effects on a community.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top 10 Ways Faculty Can Get Involved<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research indicates that faculty and staff can be positive or negative influences on a student\u2019s decisions regarding substance use.&nbsp; To be a positive influence, consider adopting one or more of these strategies in relation to the \u201cTrue Blue Health\u201d campaign:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"is-style-compact-list wp-block-list\">\n<li>Incorporate one of the \u201cTrue Blue Health\u201d messages into your campus email signature.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request a \u201cTrue Blue Health\u201d poster or calendar from the MTSU Health Promotion office (healthpr@mtsu.edu), and display it where students will see it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be conscious of any behavior changes in your students.\u00a0 Make referrals to Health Services or to Counseling Services if you are concerned.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be aware of your language.\u00a0 What you say and don\u2019t say can impact student opinions of campus culture (e.g., \u201cI know you\u2019re all going out to party this weekend, so I know better than to schedule a quiz for Monday.\u201d).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply student experiences to the concepts and theories of your lectures (e.g., effects of alcohol or tobacco on respiration in a biology course).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to the research by encouraging students to study health and social issues, attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrate course projects that challenge students to evaluate and improve their own health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a commitment to understand the MTSU drug and alcohol culture and learn what is \u201cnormal\u201d for MTSU students.\u00a0 \u201cNormal\u201d might not be what you think.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Integrate discussions about the MTSU drug and alcohol culture in your classes and organizations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promote alcohol-free events on and off campus.\u00a0 Be familiar with them through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mtsu.edu\/campuslife\/\">events calendar<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Top 10 Ways Students Can Get Involved Do you see yourself in the \u201cTrue Blue Health\u201d messages?&nbsp; Consider one or more of these suggestions for how you can help spread the word.
