MTSU is the proud home of the Women In STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Center. The WISTEM Center is open to all who support women in STEM on campus, in the community, and across Tennessee.

Mission and Goals

The mission of the WISTEM Center is to enable the campus and the community to:

Realize the intellectual potential and utilize the expertise of women in the STEM disciplines.

The goals of the Center are to: 

  1. Maximize resources and opportunities for girls and women to pursue STEM education and careers.
  2. Collaborate with PK-16 educational communities, other STEM centers, and other constituencies to maximize efforts supporting women and promoting best practices of gender equity in STEM professions.
  3. Support female STEM professionals in their academic development and career growth.

Dr. Freneka Minter, Melissa Flowers, and Sharonese Henderson

Dr. Freneka Minter, WISTEM mentor and council member, was one of the two science and technology panelists at the Black Girls in STEAM Summit. WISTEM supported the summit by donating STEM related swag for the goody bags. WISTEM council members, Melissa Flowers and Sharonese Henderson, attended the event.
