Each session, MTSU Write hosts events that nurture the writing community and celebrate literary life.  We also have facilitated writing groups, which meet on zoom. Check here for updates as events and writing groups will change from season to season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Writing Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

MTSU Write is pleased to offer writing groups for writers who want community and accountability. These writing groups are facilitated by one of our mentors, who acts as an organizer and co-participant, sharing their work alongside other members of the group. Most groups are offered via zoom, so writers can join from anywhere in the country. Please verify space is available before making a payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The registration fee is $100 per semester, which aligns with our mentorship session schedule<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019d like to join one of the groups, email mtsuwrite@mtsu.edu<\/a>. Please share your genre of choice, a short description of the project you\u2019re working on, and a 1-2 page writing sample. Upon acceptance to the group, you will be given a link to pay the registration fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March 7 – 1pm – 3pm “Innovative Structures:<\/strong> Creating the (New) Shapes of Stories”<\/strong> with Catherine Berresheim, MFA. FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this workshop, we will first look at the classic or traditional structures used in prose, poetry, stage, and film like Aristotle\u2019s unified three act structure, the Freytag Pyramid, and Blake Snyder\u2019s Save the Cat format. Then we will explore how writers can put their work into a borrowed scaffolding to discover how form can dictate the shape, and even the intention, of the work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop combines generative creative writing with lecture, small group discussions, and playful visual art projects providing attendees with opportunities to combine their chosen genre with guided writing prompts to practice borrowed forms of epistolary and journal writing, ekphrastic poetry, collage writing, and other Hermit Crab structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative Writing Workshop focused on helping participants develop multilingual, multigenre, and multidisciplinary pieces. This includes a discussion of “niching down” vs. doing what you want, then looking at examples of multilingual
writing, writing that genre-bends, and multidisciplinary writing and why they work. Finally, there will be time to write and workshop pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
