Dr. Bowman's broad research interests include the measurement and modeling of social determinants of health, as well as social inequalities and inequities that contribute to health disparities.  Her work combines the rigors of biostatistics and psychometrics to understand the ways in which personal, social, political, economic, and cultural circumstances influence healthcare utilization and the onset or progression of disease.

Her specific research foci include assessment of health-related quality of life and wellbeing in chronic disease populations, as well as determinants of early access to care for individuals with symptoms of severe mental illness. Most recently she has been working in collaboration with The Mastocytosis Society to research correlates of health-related quality of life and patient perceptions of diagnosis, treatment, and access to care in a rare disease population.
