Professional Licensure Disclosures

Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) offers multiple programs designed to meet educational requirements for a professional license or certification required for employment in an occupation in Tennessee. Completion of an MTSU program may not meet educational requirements for licensure in other U.S. States or territories. Students should be aware that licensing authorities for each state set and enforce their own requirements and standards and that those requirements and standards are subject to change. State requirements may include additional and recurring requirements such as an application, supervision, examination, continuing education, fees, fingerprinting, background check, etc. MTSU has not made a determination whether all of these programs will meet all of the certification requirements of a U.S. state or territory. MTSU recommends that students who are not located in Tennessee or who plan to seek licensure or certification outside the state of Tennessee contact the appropriate licensing agency or board before they enroll in an academic program designed to lead to licensure or certification and discuss their plans with an advisor.

Accounting

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (B.B.A.) and Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) in the Jones College of Business at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). Awarding of a Tennessee CPA license requires 150 semester hours of credit, or 30 credit hours beyond the undergraduate degree. MTSU’s M.Acc. program fulfills the additional 30 semester hour requirement with courses that support successful completion of the CPA exam and enhances accounting and finance career opportunities. In addition, there are other business degree programs in Jones College of Business that could provide the additional 30 credit hours of business courses beyond the undergraduate BBA in Accounting degree. Among these are:

Students should be aware that licensure requirements vary from state to state and are subject to change. MTSU has not made a determination whether these programs will meet all of the certification requirements of a US state or territory. Students who plan to practice outside the state of Tennessee should consult the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy listing of state certification requirements at https://nasba.org/stateboards/ and discuss their plans with their advisor.

The state of California has no state regulation of athletic training.

The M.S. in Athletic Training (M.S.A.T.) at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). MTSU discloses that the M.S.A.T. meets the educational requirement to apply for certification as an athletic trainer in the state of Tennessee. Admission to a program does not guarantee that students will obtain certification. Additionally, licensing authorities for each state set and enforce their own requirements and standards and those requirements and standards are subject to change. Prospective and current students in the MTSU M.S.A.T. program who are located outside the state of Tennessee or who plan to practice outside Tennessee should consult the table below for state-by-state disclosures and licensing board information and must discuss their plans with an advisor. Additionally, if you take even a casual interest in practicing outside of Tennessee upon graduation, we strongly encourage you to review the licensure and certification requirements for your states of interest.

The University updates this table annually to show, for each state and territory, its determination whether MTSU’s M.S.A.T. program meets the educational requirement for licensure, does not meet the educational requirement for licensure, or the University has not yet been able to make a determination. The table also provides links to state licensing boards. The National Athletic Trainers Association provides a guide to state licensure, certification, and registration at https://members.nata.org/gov/state/regulatory-boards/map.cfm. Successful completion of the B.S.N. is required to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) that qualifies a B.S.N. graduate for licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing.
