General Answers
Canvas was selected by the LMS Work Group after an extensive review in Spring 2025 for its superior performance, presentation quality, faculty support, and navigation, aligning with MTSU’s goal of a future-proof learning environment. Here is an overview of the reasons we switched, and a website about the LMS review process and people who participated in the review (students, faculty, and staff).

Answers for Faculty
A very high priority for our Canvas Implementation Team is helping you get your course content migrated to Canvas efficiently and effectively. Our migration plan includes three ways course migration occurs as described below.
K16 Solutions migrates courses
MTSU has contracted with a specialized course migration vendor (K16 Solutions). Their primary business is migrating courses from one LMS to another, and they are experts. K16 Solutions will migrate a large number of courses for MTSU. Courses migrated by K16 Solutions will include:
- All courses from instructors participating in the Early Adoption Spring 2026 pilot.
- All MTSU Online Blueprint/Master courses. If you teach a fully online course, it will be migrated by K16 Solutions.
- All “complex” courses using more than four D2L tools or applications.
The instructor moves the course manually with support from the MTSU Canvas Implementation Team
You may be teaching or have taught courses that use little to no tools in D2L (such as a course that has a syllabus and not much else in the LMS), or you just want to move your course yourself. For these courses, you will manually export your D2L course and import it into the Canvas course. Instructions for manually migrating courses are available on the Canvas Resources for Faculty page under the Moving Courses from D2L section. Once you have imported your course(s), you can contact the Canvas Implementation Team for help cleaning up any issues as a result of the migration.
About Archiving Past Courses
We will post more here about this as soon as details are available. The courses in D2L will be available until December 31st, 2026, and we will share more about archiving long before then.
