809  Salary Increase for Attaining Certified Administrative Professional Status

Approved by President
Effective Date: June 5, 2017
Responsible Division: Business and Finance
Responsible Office:  Human Resource Services
Responsible Officer:  Assistant Vice President, Human Resource Services

I.  Purpose

This policy outlines eligibility of Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU or University) employees to attain a salary increase for the passing of the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) examination.

II.  General

MTSU employees who work in a clerical-secretarial or clerical management non-exempt position who pass the CAP examination shall be granted a nine percent (9%) increase in salary following receipt of official notice of the certification by Human Resource Services (HRS). Clerical-secretarial or clerical management non-exempt positions are defined as those positions that are a classification of EEO 40 or EEO 50. Exempt employees are not eligible for the increase. Employees may contact HRS with questions regarding eligibility for the increase.

Certification increases shall become effective with the next pay period after the employee’s passing grades on all parts of the examination are certified by the Institute of Certifying Secretaries (International Association of Administrative Professionals Institute [IAAP]). The certification date is not the date that the test is administered nor the date that the report from IAAP is received. It is the employee’s responsibility to provide the appropriate verification to HRS.

An employee must pass the exam sponsored by the IAAP in order to receive the nine percent (9%) increase. Individuals who previously received the nine percent (9%) increase are not eligible for a subsequent nine percent (9%) increase for passing the Certified Administrative Professional exam.
