Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Engineering Technology Concentration, B.S.

U.S. News and World Report Best Colleges Engineering Programs 2025The Electromechanical Engineering Technology Concentration is part of the Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology offered through the College of Basic and Applied Science at MTSU.

The Electromechanical Engineering Technology concentration prepares the student for positions in industry requiring the integration of electricity (for power and control) and mechanical devices (for force and motion) to perform tasks associated with manufacturing and the performance of services. Employment opportunities exist in fields such as robotics, fluid power, industrial electricity, heating and air conditioning, and industrial automation. This concentration is in high demand from technology-based companies such as automotive and high-tech manufacturing operations.

Electromechanical Engineering Technology Highlights

  • Accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET, (https://www.abet.org), under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Electromechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in advanced lab methodologies
  • Graduates recruited by regional, national, and international employers

Program Educational Objectives

Within a few years of graduation, an Electromechanical Engineering Technology graduate will have the ability to . . .

  1. Excel in careers in the design, development, analysis, implementation, maintenance, optimization, and operation of electrical and mechanical components and/ or electromechanical systems.
  2. Lead industry-based, cross-disciplinary projects that are innovative and add value to their respective organizations.
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous-life-long learning as evidenced by the attainment of professional certifications, communication and/or leadership training, graduate degrees, being active in professional/technical societies, etc.
  4. Serve as a mentor/leader to the next generation of engineering technologists or subordinates and act as a positive change agent in their respective organizations.

Student Outcomes

By the time of their graduation, EMET graduates will possess the following skills:

  1. an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  2. an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;
  3. an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
  4. an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes; and
  5. an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.
