Theatre, Teacher Licensure Concentration, B.S.
The Theatre and Dance Department offers a major in Theatre with a concentration in Teacher Licensure (grades K-12). MTSU is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
Students will complete a Theatre major and 21 hours of additional coursework for the concentration in Teacher Licensure. There is also a Secondary Education Minor requirement. Students must contact their Secondary Education minor advisors for approval of appropriate courses. (For specific procedures and additional requirements for teacher licensure, see College of Education.)
Students majoring in Theatre must receive a grade of C or better in all courses in their major for the course to count as a prerequisite or to count toward graduation. No more than 50 percent of coursework (60 credits of 120 required) for the degree may be completed in THEA coursework.
The Bachelor of Science in Theatre is offered through Department of Theatre and Dance in the College of Liberal Arts at MTSU. MTSU is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
Theatre majors at MTSU take center stage with hands-on production responsibilities in the theatre's main season. Students enter a comprehensive program that includes all areas of performance and design/technology, theatre in education, and dance. Theory and instruction are infused with a carefully crafted progression of hands-on experience and training. Students use state-of-the-art lighting, costuming, and scenery equipment both in and out of the classroom. The major in Theatre is designed to provide students with maximum opportunities to develop theoretical and practical appreciation of theatre arts. Preparation is offered for the pursuit of graduate study in several fields or for entry into professions including secondary school teaching and professional theatre.
The recently renovated Tucker Theatre and the Anderson Studio Theatre provides space for student produced and main stage performances.

Professional Licensure Disclosure
MTSU discloses that the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Theatre, Teacher Licensure is a teacher licensure preparation program accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. Admission to an undergraduate teacher licensure preparation program does not guarantee that students will obtain a teacher license. Successful program completion meets the educational requirements to apply for a practitioner teacher licensure in Tennessee.
The B.S. Theatre, Teacher Licensure disclosure provided on MTSU’s professional licensure disclosure website indicates the states and territories where MTSU has determined, through reasonable and good faith effort, that the program does or does not meet the educational requirements for other US states and territories. Licensing authorities for each state set and enforce their own requirements and standards, which are subject to change. Current and prospective students not located in Tennessee or who plan to seek licensure or certification outside the state of Tennessee should contact the appropriate state licensing agency or board and discuss their plans with an advisor and the MTSU Office of Teacher Licensure before enrolling in the program to ensure they have the most up-to-date information and guidance regarding licensure requirements.
