Going off to college can be an exciting yet confusing time. CUSTOMS is a summer orientation program for you and your family designed to help you make a smooth transition to life at Middle Tennessee State University.

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions to help you with your inquiry:

What is Pre-CUSTOMS?
Pre-CUSTOMS is an online program that you are REQUIRED to complete BEFORE attending CUSTOMS. It is designed to give you information before coming to CUSTOMS to make your visit less overwhelming. There is a workbook at the end of the program that you MUST PRINT OFF AND BRING WITH YOU TO CUSTOMS. Don't forget to bring it.

How can I come to CUSTOMS?
All students who apply for admission to the University will receive information about CUSTOMS through conventional mail. Once you are accepted you will be invited to register for a CUSTOMS session.

Will I be able to select classes?
By participating in CUSTOMS you'll have the opportunity to register early.

Should my family come?
Yes! We encourage freshman family members to attend. They have many questions and concerns which can be best answered at CUSTOMS.

Which session should I attend?
For your convenience, we have scheduled several different dates . You MUST come to a session that is scheduled for your particular college in order to receive correct advising. See MAJOR LIST to check the college that your major falls under.

Is there a fee to attend?
Yes, there is a fee to attend CUSTOMS.

Where do we stay during CUSTOMS?
Both students and family members can stay in on-campus housing during CUSTOMS. There will be the opportunity to sign-up for housing on the registration form. Additional costs apply.

If you do not want to stay on-campus, there are many nice hotels and motels in Murfreesboro.

Do I get to meet with an advisor?
Yes, you will get to meet with an advisor. Each student will have a 20 minute individual advising appointment.

Do I have to stay for the entire session?
Yes, you have to attend every activity during CUSTOMS in order to register for classes at the end of the session.
