In many programs, undergraduate students find themselves
sitting on the sidelines, watching the action instead of
participating in it. Opportunities abound, however, for
students to experience important production responsibilities
in the Theatre program at MTSU. After choosing a
specialization in design and technology, performance, child
drama, directing, or dance, you will begin a carefully
crafted progression of training that leads to participation
in key positions in our theatre's main season. Hands-on
experiences like these can only be found in a program that
focuses exclusively on preprofessional undergraduate
training.
MTSU Theatre offers an array of
courses unmatched by most other
training programs. Our students use state-of-the-art
lighting and scenery equipment. We bring regional,
national, and internationally renowned artists to campus each
semester through our
guest artist program
. And, we provide extensive opportunities for
students off-campus as well - including internships,
performance tours to international destinations, and
participation in regional and national conferences for the
theatre profession.
Our
faculty
dedicate themselves to the development of theatre
professionals and are leaders in important academic and
professional organizations. Many continue as professional
theatre artists. MTSU Theatre is active in the
Kennedy Center American College Theatre
Festival
, the
Southeastern Theatre Conference
, the
United States Institute of Theatre
Technology
, the
Tennessee Theatre Association
, and the
Association for Theatre in Higher
Education
.
