Welcome to CUSTOMS
What is CUSTOMS?
CUSTOMS is the Middle Tennessee State University new student orientation program. CUSTOMS helps new undergraduate students make the transition into the university; prepares new students for MTSU's educational opportunities; and initiates the integration of new students into the intellectual, cultural, and social climate of the institution. In a nutshell, CUSTOMS shows new students the ropes on being a student at MTSU.
How is CUSTOMS Structured?
Freshman CUSTOMS 2021 will take place with three Components:
- CUSTOMS Online- these are REQUIRED Informational modules that you will complete PRIOR to your on-campus CUSTOMS experience.
- ON- CAMPUS CUSTOMS program - this will include important information and resources, learning your way around campus, meeting other students, learning about your academic major and requirements for registration. Masks are required at all times while on campus. Due to COVID space restrictions each student is limited to bring only ONE GUEST. We will not be able to accommodate additional guests and they will be turned away from participating in CUSTOMS.
- VIRTUAL Advising and course registration the day FOLLOWING your on-campus CUSTOMS date- You will get information from your academic dean and advising staff while on campus for CUSTOMS, but will schedule a VIRTUAL advising appointment for the day following your on-campus experience. Your academic advisor will also assist you with registration for fall classes. This appointment will be scheduled by email prior to your on-campus CUSTOMS date.
How do I Sign Up for CUSTOMS?
CUSTOMS signup is open for tentatively admitted freshmen and transfer students for Fall 2021. To begin the sign up process you must use your PipelinMT account.

What is My Group (Country) Name?
CUSTOMS is the theme of the orientation program. The theme goes along with the process as you leave and enter a new country and go through customs. The new students are grouped together by majors for advising purposes, and we use country names to identify these groups. When you sign up for CUSTOMS, you will be notified of the date you have been assigned and the name of the country in which you are grouped.
CUSTOMS is designed a little differently for each type of new student. Please select your classification on the left menu bar to begin your CUSTOMS journey!
CUSTOMS Orientation will give you vital information about the University and the many
resources that you will use as a student. This orientation is required to be completed before you can be advised and register
for your courses.
Admitted for Spring 2022
Registration for CUSTOMS will be available at the end of October 2021.
