The Statistics and Data Analysis concentration offers a program of study in one of the broadest areas of applied mathematics. Fields of application include agriculture, business, communications, government, health, industry, public policy, sports, and science. Emphasizing a blend of theory and practice, the program prepares students for careers as statisticians and statistical data analysts while providing a solid foundation for graduate studies in related fields.
MTSU is one of a handful of public universities in the state to offer a B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration that prepares students to work in statistical data analysis. Our program provides students with a comprehensive foundation of mathematical knowledge, hands on-experience working with real data, and expert understanding of the theory, application, and computational implementation of statistical data analysis. In addition, the program offers students the flexibility to hone their skills to specific interests through the selection of targeted supporting courses in statistics, computing, information systems, and data science. Graduates of the program wishing to continue their education can choose from one of MTSU’s many statistics-related graduate degree programs, including a MS in Professional Science with a concentration in Biostatistics or Health Care Informatics, a MS in Data Science, and a PhD in Computational and Data Science.
