MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee graduate Courtney Whitson has been appointed to the 2023-24 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group to represent Conference USA.

The group will serve as an amplifying voice for women's basketball players on key initiatives, legislation, and various other issues. Originally formed in 2021 in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and the group consists of current student-athletes from each of the 32 conferences that make up Division I basketball.

"I am humbled to receive this great honor and look forward to the opportunities it presents for both myself as an individual and for our program," said Whitson.

Whitson, a native of Kingsport, Tennessee, has excelled both on and off the court. She is a two-time recipient of the True Blue President's Award, the highest honor bestowed upon a current MTSU student-athlete who exemplifies the best qualities of intercollegiate athletics. Whitson currently ranks third all-time with 121 consecutive games started and recently joined an elite group of five Lady Raiders who have achieved over 1,000 career points and 800 career rebounds.

As a senior, she played all 40 minutes in 14 games, including a 45-minute performance in the Lady Raiders' overtime victory against UTEP. In her junior year, she ranked second nationally in minutes played per game (38.4). Additionally, Whitson was named First Team All-CUSA and to the CSC Academic All-District team in 2022-23, and is a three-time CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll member, a two-time CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medalist, and a member of the 2021-22 CUSA All-Academic Team.

Alongside her athletic achievements, Whitson graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and plans to pursue a Master of Professional Studies with a concentration in Strategic Leadership.

Throughout her career, Whitson has amassed 57 double-figure scoring performances, 26 double-digit rebounding outings, and ten double-doubles.
