Dr. David Cyzak (*see-zak) is the Assistant Professor of Oboe and Music Industry at Middle Tennessee State University where he serves as the Coordinator of the Music Industry Program.

Before arriving at MTSU, Cyzak served on faculty at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Bradley University, Illinois College, and Illinois Central College. In addition to teaching private oboe lessons, his course offerings included Music Technology, Music Theory, Music History, and Woodwind Methods.

As a global artist, Cyzak's activities include performing and presenting research in Europe and across North America. As an active orchestral musician, he served as the Acting Principal Oboe in the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Second Oboe in the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Second Oboe in Sinfonia da Camera, Solo English Horn with the Heartland Festival Orchestra, and as a member of the Peoria Bach Festival Orchestra. In addition to orchestral, concerto, and recital performances his recent master class appearances include visits to Penn State, DePaul University, Illinois State University, Ball State, and the University of Iowa. His playing can be heard on NAXOS and Nimbus Records music labels.

While in Illinois, Cyzak served as the Wind Ensemble Director for Youth Music Illinois, provided music contracting services, and attained a Certificate in Business Administration from the Gies College of Business. Additionally, he served as the Director of Symphonic Services and Executive Board Member of AFM Local 301, serving as a delegate to the AFM 101st International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. He also served as an elected Orchestra Committee representative to the 67 orchestral musicians of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra—advancing their fundamental interests while also representing them in high stakes contract negotiations.

Always investigating and sharing the tradition of classical music Cyzak's activities have consistently focused on working with living composers to perform and premiere their works while seeking to illuminate classical music's broad spectrum of expressive possibilities for any audience.

Originally from Kenosha, Wisconsin, Cyzak received his Doctorate from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign studying with John Dee. His doctoral research explores the advanced vocal and instrumental techniques of Vinko Globokar's Oboe and English Horn works. He received a Master of Music Degree and Artist Diploma from The Hartt School under the tutelage of Humbert Lucarelli and a Bachelor of Music from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where he studied with James Caldwell, Robert Walters, and Alex Klein.
