Biography

A native of South Korea, Eunbyol Ko has been praised for her artistry and intelligence as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. A native of South Korea, Eunbyol Ko has been praised for her artistry and intelligence as a soloist, chamber musician, and concerto soloist. She maintains an active international career playing a highly diverse range of repertoire. Performances have taken her to Brazil, Canada, Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Australia, China, South Korea, and the United States.  

Ko has appeared with the Kyungwon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Queen City Chamber Orchestra, and the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, among others. She was selected by the Korean National Music Association to perform on the prestigious Rising Star Series in Korea. She was also the featured Conference Artist for the Kentucky Music Teachers Association State Conference.  

Notable venues in which she has performed include the Sejong Arts Center in Seoul, the Brücknerhaus in Linz, the Mozarteum Great Hall in Salzburg, the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, the Sydney Conservatorium, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.  

Competition honors include first prizes in the South Korea National Competition, the Eumyoun competition, and the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Chamber Music Competition. She was also a prize winner in the International Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition, the Kankakee Concerto Competition, and the Ibla Grand Prize Competition in Italy.  

An active chamber musician, Ko has performed with members of the Cincinnati Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, Columbus Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, China National Symphony, and the Seoul Philharmonic. She has performed and recorded with notable groups and soloists, including SymbiosisDuo, the Awea Duo, Intersection, Gateway Chamber Orchestra, and acclaimed violinist, Gao Can.  

Ko was the official collaborative pianist for the Young-Pyong International Clarinet Festival, the Henri Marteau International Violin Competition (Germany), the Mozarteum International Summer Academy, and the Great Wall International Music Academy. She has also served as a collaborative pianist for the CCM Vocal Department and was a chamber music coach for the Starling String Project in Cincinnati.  

A dedicated teacher, Ko’s students have been the recipients of numerous honors and awards. Top prizes have been earned in the Dayton Philharmonic Young Artists Competition, the New Horizons Piano Competition, the David D. Dubois Piano Competition, and numerous MTNA State and Regional Competitions. Her students have also been accepted to the prestigious National YoungArts Competition and featured on NPR’s From the Top.  

Ko maintains an active schedule as an adjudicator, presenter, and masterclass teacher throughout the United States and abroad. She has presented at the MTNA National Convention, numerous College Music Society Regional and International Conferences, the National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Conference (GP3), and the Kentucky Music Teachers Association State Conference.  

Prior to joining the faculty at MTSU, Ko was an Assistant Professor of Piano at Morehead State University. She also served on the faculty of the CCM Preparatory and Piano Departments, and as Coordinator of Collaborative Piano at Austin Peay State University.  

Ko received her Doctor of Music Arts degree in Piano Performance with a Cognate in Chamber Music from CCM and her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Indiana University. Her former teachers include Soo-Jung Shin, Shigeo Neriki, Eugene Pridonoff, and James Tocco.
