Biography

Dr. Sheehan-Smith joined the faculty at MTSU in 1994 as an adjunct instructor; she is currently a Professor in Nutrition & Food Science and Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. She completed her B.S. in Dietetics and Institution Administration at Western Kentucky University, and a dietetic internship, her M.Ed. in Science Education and Ed.D. in Human Resource Development at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Sheehan-Smith joined the faculty at MTSU in 1994 as an adjunct instructor; she is currently a Professor in Nutrition & Food Science and Director of the Didactic Program in Dietetics. She completed her B.S. in Dietetics and Institution Administration at Western Kentucky University, and a dietetic internship, her M.Ed. in Science Education and Ed.D. in Human Resource Development at Vanderbilt University. She is a registered dietitian and is licensed in the state of Tennessee to practice nutrition.    

Dr. Sheehan-Smith teaches two Experiential Learning (EXL) courses including Food Systems Management and Dietetics Management. These courses are offered as part of MTSU’s EXL Scholars Program and focus on partnering with area community service and healthcare organizations to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities.  In recognition of her teaching and student mentoring skills, she was awarded one of the 2015 MTSU Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Experiential Learning Faculty Awards. She is also a past recipient of the Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award for the Nashville and Tennessee Academies of Nutrition and Dietetics.
