Flexible program fits needs for Atlanta precast manager

Earning an M.B.A. with a concentration in Concrete Industry Management in 2014 has helped Frank Bowen as Piedmont Precast's plant manager in Atlanta. He manages the company's precast operations, including production, quality control, safety, logistics, research and development, and NPCA (National Precast Concrete Association) certification. Bowen is also now on the quality assurance committee of the NPCA. "This niche M.B.A. program was perfectly tailored to my needs," he says. "With a career in the concrete manufacturing industry, this particular program was extremely valuable in helping me advance my role in the industry." Bowen was a 2004 Mass Communication graduate from Auburn University before joining his family's business, which has focused on burial vaults since the Depression but also now specializes in precast retaining walls and traffic barriers. "The CIM M.B.A. program has helped me focus on Six Sigma tactics to lean our assembly and production times in a manner that makes us more competitive," Bowen said.

Concrete M.B.A. will open doors to a bright future

Jonathan Harrell's father first read about MTSU's Concrete Industry Management program in the local newspaper and suggested that his son look into it. Harrell decided that there was a great future in concrete because if its importance as a building material. He received a B.S. in Concrete Industry Management in 2007. "I had such a great experience that being part of the inaugural CIM/MBA program at MTSU was the obvious choice," he says. "Choosing a graduate program that directly relates to the industry that I am employed in gives me the unique opportunity to advance within the industry." He first worked for Essroc Italcementi Group in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Subsequently, he has been in quality control and sales and currently is in the Cement Commercial Group, Louisville. He received his M.B.A. degree with a CIM concentration in 2014. "The M.B.A. degree has provided an immediate return both professionally and personally," Harrell noted. "I am truly excited to see what doors will open within Essroc and know that the education I received will be an asset for years to come."
