INFORMATION

What if I decide to enroll in a master’s degree program?

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Health Care Management does not guarantee admission to a master’s degree program for which students must meet specific requirements. However, coursework in the certificate program may articulate with several existing programs such as the Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Sociology, the Master of Science in Human Sciences, and the Master of Science in Professional Science. Credit hours may be approved for transfer into one of the specified degree programs. Acceptance of credit hours requires that an approved plan of study by the sponsoring graduate program be filled with the College of Graduate Studies.

Program Criteria:

Each candidate for the HCM program must have a baccalaureate degree, an undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.75, and approval by the dean of Graduate Studies and the director of the HCM program.

An application must be submitted to the College of Graduate Studies. Include with the application a one-page narrative demonstrating an interest in health care management, experiences in the health care field, and career goals and aspirations.

A student may transfer up to six hours of approved coursework into the certificate program and may simultaneously pursue both the certificate and graduate degree. However, being admitted to a degree program and successfully completing coursework typically required for the graduate certificate does not automatically qualify a student for the certificate.

Students enrolled in the graduate certificate program must comply with existing policies applicable to all graduate programs at MTSU. The time limit for use of credit toward the certificate is six years from the date of enrollment in the earliest course applied toward the certificate. A student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 (based on a 4-point scale) on courses leading to the certificate.
