Information Systems, Business Intelligence and Analytics Concentration, M.S.

The Business Intelligence and Analytics Concentration of the Master of Science in Information Systems offered by the Jones College of Business at MTSU provides education and insight into extremely valuable tools — Business Intelligence and Business Analytics.

An M.S. in Business Intelligence helps senior business leaders, managers, and top executives to make better-informed decisions based on collected data. The proper use of Business Intelligence allows businesses to identify business opportunities, enact cost-saving procedures, and recognize inefficient processes that need to be corrected. By drawing conclusions from effective data analysis, business leaders can gain a deeper insight into customer behavior and business processes.

Business Intelligence has numerous applications in marketing, sales, finance, and other key areas of business operations.

Business Analytics, using statistics and data modeling, uses historical business data to take a data-driven approach to business to develop new insights into the future health of a business. The use of this historical data allows businesses to develop new business plans and drive decision-making toward a future-focused goal. The blending of business and technologies makes this an ideal program for anyone interested in big data or programming. Effective use of these tools allows businesses to:

  • Gain customer insights
  • Improve business operations visibility
  • Uncover actionable insights
  • Improve efficiency across the organization
  • Use real-time data effectively
  • Build better marketing efforts
  • Give the business a competitive advantage

Through requirements, students combine core and elective classes to form a strong foundation in database-related topics. The Master of Science in Information Systems with a concentration in Business Intelligence and Analytics requires completion of 30 semester hours.  The department also offers courses for the Master of Business Administration degree.
