The program is housed in MTSU’s Department of Accounting in the Jennings A. Jones College of Business—one of a small percentage of institutions worldwide with dual AACSB accreditation in both its business and accounting programs—and offered in collaboration with the Scott Borchetta College of Media and Entertainment and the Nashville School of Law (NSL), blending legal and academic excellence. Students will take evening classes for part of the program at NSL at its campus on Armory Oaks Drive in Nashville, and additional classes through MTSU in hybrid, online, and in-person formats.
- Designed for full-time working professionals to complete in just two years.
- The program’s outstanding faculty consists of experienced attorneys and legal professionals from NSL, as well as MTSU faculty with expertise in business, media, law, and government.
- Provides ease by applying to MTSU only—no separate NSL application needed and no GRE, GMAT, or LSAT required.
The Business Law concentration is designed for business professionals in a wide variety of careers who want to sharpen their understanding of the legal landscape in which businesses operate today—whether in corporate, government, nonprofit, or entrepreneurial settings. Coursework emphasizes practical knowledge and skills in contracts, employment law, negotiation and other selected business law topics to more effectively communicate with your team and legal counsel and develop sound business strategies within legal and ethical frameworks.
Begin the journey with core classes:
- Introduction to Law and the U.S. Legal System and Legal Ethics courses led by MTSU faculty.
- Contracts and Legal Skills & Values I, led by NSL faculty, allowing you to learn alongside NSL law students in a professional learning environment.
Continue on a flexible learning path with:
- MTSU courses to develop legal awareness and fluency in Employment Law, Seminar in Negotiation, and Survey of Selected Business Law Topics (covering topics such as civil liabilities, business entities, the U.S. Constitution, antitrust, securities law, environmental law, and more).
- Tailor your degree with two electives from choices spanning multiple disciplines—management, economics, business and healthcare law, philosophy, recording industry, and more. Finish with a capstone project in your selected area of interest.
While this program does not lead to bar exam eligibility or licensure to practice law, it offers the opportunity to cultivate career-enhancing legal fluency, knowledge, and critical thinking skills for leadership in today’s regulated and litigated business environment.

Nashville School of Law
Nashville School of Law (NSL) is a private non-profit law school founded in 1911 whose mission is to offer high-quality legal education at an affordable tuition. Classes are held exclusively at night. Most students enrolled in the School continue full-time employment, during the day, throughout their law school career. The School is approved by the Tennessee Bar of Law Examiners under the authority of the Tennessee Supreme Court, although not accredited by the American Bar Association. NSL graduates also can be found among the ranks of federal, state, and local officials, in business leadership roles, and community service positions.
Note: Through MTSU’s arrangement with NSL, NSL will admit students in MTSU’s M.S. in Legal Studies program to take two designated courses to count towards the MTSU M.S. in Legal Studies degree only. Students in this program will not be admitted as NSL law students, and thus, these courses will not fulfill any requirements to sit for the bar exam in Tennessee or elsewhere.
