WordPress Core Blocks

WordPress core blocks are the built-in content elements available in the block editor, allowing editors to create and organize content without needing custom code. They provide a consistent, flexible way to build pages and posts while supporting responsive layouts and accessibility best practices.

Text Blocks

  • The Classic block provides a traditional editing experience similar to the older WordPress editor. It allows you to add and format text, images, and basic media using a familiar toolbar with standard formatting options.

  • The Heading block helps organize your content by creating titles and section headers. It allows you to structure your page in a logical way, making it easier for visitors to scan and understand.

  • The List block lets you display information in a bulleted or numbered format. It is useful for breaking content into easy-to-read points or steps.

  • The Math block lets you add equations and formulas to your page using LaTeX-style syntax. It’s useful for academic or technical content where standard text isn’t enough, and renders expressions into a clear, readable format.

  • The Paragraph block is used to add and format basic text on your page. You can type directly into the block and adjust things like alignment, bolding, or links to create clear and readable content.

  • The Quote block is designed to highlight a quotation or important piece of text. It visually sets the content apart from the rest of the page to draw attention.

  • The Table block allows you to organize content into rows and columns, making it easier to present structured data such as schedules or comparisons.

Media Blocks

  • The Cover block lets you display an image or video with text layered on top. It is often used for banners or section headers to create visual impact.

  • The File block allows you to upload a file and provide a download link for users. This is useful for sharing documents like PDFs or forms.

  • he Gallery block lets you add multiple images at once and display them in a grid layout. It is ideal for showcasing collections of photos.

  • The Image block is used to insert a single image into your page. You can upload an image, choose one from your media library, and adjust its alignment and size.

  • The Media & Text block allows you to place an image or video alongside text in a side-by-side layout. This helps create visually engaging content while keeping related information grouped together.

  • The Video block lets you upload or embed a video so it can be viewed on your page. It supports common video formats and provides playback controls.

Design Blocks

  • The Accordion block allows you to organize content into expandable sections that users can open and close. This is useful for FAQs or pages with a lot of information, as it helps keep content compact and easier to navigate.

  • The Buttons block allows you to add one or more clickable buttons. These are commonly used for links, calls to action, or navigation.

  • The Columns block enables you to arrange content side-by-side in multiple columns. This helps create more structured and visually engaging layouts.

  • The Grid block arranges content into a structured grid layout with multiple rows and columns. It is useful for displaying items like cards, posts, or images in a consistent format.

  • The Group block allows you to combine multiple blocks into a single section so they can be styled or moved together. This helps organize content into clearly defined sections.

  • The Row block places blocks in a horizontal row, allowing you to align content side by side in a flexible layout. It is often used for buttons, images, or short pieces of content.

  • The Separator block inserts a horizontal line between sections of content. It provides a simple visual break to divide information.

  • The Spacer block adds empty space between blocks. It helps improve layout and readability by giving content room to breathe.

  • The Stack block places content in a vertical column with consistent spacing between each item. It’s useful for grouping related content while keeping layouts clean and organized.

Widgets Blocks

  • The RSS block displays a list of posts from an external RSS feed, such as a blog or news site. It automatically updates as new content is published in the feed.

  • The Social Icons block displays a set of icons linking to your social media profiles. It allows users to quickly connect with your department on external platforms.

Embed Blocks

  • The Embed block lets you add content from external websites, such as videos or social media posts, by pasting a link.

  • The Flickr embed block displays images or galleries from Flickr within your page. It is useful for sharing visual content hosted externally.

  • The iFrame block embeds external webpages or custom content within your page. It is often used for third-party tools or interactive content.

  • The Issuu embed block allows you to display digital publications, such as brochures or magazines, directly on your page.

  • The SoundCloud embed block allows you to add audio content from SoundCloud, such as music or podcasts, directly to your page.

  • The Twitter embed block displays a post directly from Twitter on your page. It allows users to view and interact with social content without leaving your site.

  • The Vimeo embed block lets you add videos from Vimeo for users to watch without leaving your site.

  • The YouTube Embed block lets you add a YouTube video to your page by pasting in the video link. The video will appear with standard playback controls directly on your page.
