Project Description

At the Science Perceptions Lab at MTSU, under the guidance of Dr. Liz Barnes, I am investigating how Muslim undergraduate students learn and engage with the concept of evolution. We are exploring their views on evolution, including their acceptance or rejection, perceived conflicts, and the impact of their belief systems, race, culture, and religion. Additionally, we aim to identify ways to improve educational outcomes for these students.

Why does this topic interest you?

As a Muslim student researcher and a part of this diverse university, this topic will provide a unique perspective in understanding the specific challenges Muslim students face. By examining their perspectives, we can contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.

What are your professional aspirations?

I hope to become a physician so I can improve people's lives through both patient care, research, and scientific discovery. I'm especially interested in exploring new ideas, doing meaningful research, and providing care that supports both the physical and emotional well-being of others.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; they’re a natural part of growth and learning. Remember, there are always people ready to support you! Embrace your errors as steppingstones on the path to your success.
