Minors and Interdisciplinary Programs
An English minor is an excellent complement to many different academic programs. Courses may be selected from a variety of upper-division courses [link to course list for current year] according to the student’s interests and career goals. English minors are advised out of the upper-division office. Dr. Elvira Casal advises all minors, but minors may consult any of the other advisors.
A minor in English requires a minimum of 15 upper division hours, including ENGL 3007.
English 3007 builds on what students have studied in lower-division English courses to give students an overview of English studies with the emphasis on the relationship between culture, writing and the imagination. (Students who decide to major in English after taking English 3007 may ask their advisors to substitute the class as area 7.)
ENGL 1010, 1020, 2020, 2030 or other lower-division English classes cannot be counted as part of the hours required for the minor. Minors may not enroll in ENGL 3000, 3010, 3020, 3030, or 4500, which are open only to English majors.
For more information about the minor, please contact the upper-division English office (PH 323) at (615) 898-2576.
