Project Description

With Dr. Gao, I am researching and attempting to optimize extraction methods for gensenosides, and with Dr. Phillips, I am researching rooting methods for Jujube trees.

Why does this topic interest you?

The gensenoside extraction methods are important because of the numerous health benefits derived from ginseng. These compounds are used in a variety of medications and treatments. I feel that I am making a contribution to the wellbeing of society. With the Jujube tree propagation research, I feel that super foods like this are essential to our agricultural future. This nutritious and disease resistant tree has exceptional potential in the fields of Agriculture, medicine, and economics.

What are your professional aspirations?

As a Biology and Sociology major, I hope to one day use my skills to go on to medical school. I want to work with underrepresented minorities and use my abilities to improve my community.

Do you have any advice for future researchers?

“Your ultimate goal is before you. Behind your back is the hour which is driving you on. Keep light and overtake. Your last ones are being awaited by the first ones (who have preceded).” Ali ibn Abi Talib
