Description of Quality Enhancement Plan

“The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is the component of the reaffirmation process that reflects and affirms the commitment of the Commission on Colleges to enhancing the quality of higher education in the region and to focusing attention on student learning. The QEP describes a carefully designed course of action that addresses a well-defined and focused topic or issue related to enhancing student learning and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution.“  (SACSCOC Handbook for Institutions Seeking Reaffirmation p. 39)

“Within the context of the QEP as a requirement for reaffirmation, the Commission on Colleges broadly defines student learning as changes in (1) knowledge, (2) skills, (3) behaviors, or (4) values. “ (p. 44)

The QEP will build on campus conversations that have focused around the Quest for Student Success, the Academic Master Plan, and other reports and data related to student learning that have been developed by faculty and administrative groups over the past few years.

SACSCOC Guidelines for the QEP are detailed in the Core Requirement 2.12 and the Comprehensive Standard 3.3.2 as found in the Principles of Accreditation.

CR 2.12:  The institution has developed an acceptable Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that includes an institutional process for identifying key issues emerging from institutional assessment and focuses on learning outcomes and/or the environment supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution.

CS 3.3.2:  The institution has developed a Quality Enhancement Plan that (1) demonstrates institutional capability for the initiation, implementation, and completion of the QEP; (2) includes broad-based involvement of institutional constituencies in the development and proposed implementation of the QEP; and (3) identifies goals and a plan to assess their achievement.

The following steps from the SACSCOC Handbook for Institutions Seeking Reaffirmation will guide the development of the QEP.

Step 1: Selecting a Topic
Step 2: Defining Student Learning Outcomes
Step 3: Researching the Topic
Step 4: Identifying the Actions to be Implemented
Step 5: Establishing the Timeline for Implementation
Step 6: Organizing for Success
Step 7: Identifying Necessary Resources
Step 8: Assessing the Success of the QEP
Step 9: Preparing the QEP for Submission
