In honor of Engage Week at MTSU, we are looking for creative contributions with an engagement theme to publish in a MTSU community zine book.

Zines (pronounced “zeens” like in magazines) are a type of publication that can represent various viewpoints, narrative styles, and artistic media. The book is co-sponsored by Engage and the MT Open Press.

Calling all MTSU Agriculture Majors! Have you ever had to go an entire school day without a meal? At MTSU, 26.9% of students struggle with food insecurity, but do not worry – you can help!

We are hosting a food drive to collect essential items for students sitting right next to you in your classes who are in need. Every donation brings us closer to building a hunger-free future. The first 100 students to donate 5 items get a free t-shirt!

Exploring Mentorship

On Monday, September 22 in James E. Walker Library 348 from 10 am – 12 pm, College of Liberal Arts, with co-sponsorship from Engage and Center for Teaching & Mentoring, will host a panel of local community members to delve into mentorship. Panelists will share moments from their mentoring journey, including within their career, and their mentoring philosophy. This includes a small group discussion and one-on-one conversations for reflection on their stories and insights. Opportunities for mentorship on campus and in the community will be shared.


College of Education Career Fair – Pathways to Education

Marketing in a Global Marketplace

Presented by Jones College of Business, Marketing Department

With information from around the world becoming more readily accessible, it is important for students to understand the global marketplace. This event will teach students about cultural differences from around the world (e.g., gestures, colors, language translations, traditions). In addition, students will learn how these cultural differences impact marketing. As part of this event, students will be given the opportunity to try a variety of name brand food-based products from each continent (e.g., Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, Australia). Students will also engage in hands-on activities to recognize the vast amount of consumer goods they possess that are produced internationally. In order to encourage student participation, international foods, and other prizes will be provided.

In Their Shoes – A poverty simulation

Makerspace Open House

Have you ever wanted to learn more about our Makerspace? We’re happy to bring back one of our favorite events with the Makerspace Open House, brought to you in partnership with Engage. Join us on Wednesday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. as we feature demonstrations of our 3D printers, hot press, Podcasting Studio, Easy Recording Studio, flight simulator, mixed and virtual reality, and so much more. Our hands-on activities include our Sphero Robot obstacle course and our Build a Tiny! Environment station. In addition to all of this, our staff will be on hand to guide participants in the demonstrations and activities, answer questions about how to get started using the Makerspace, and provide help signing up for equipment trainings. We hope to see you there!

The Walker Library Makerspace is an active learning environment for students, faculty, and staff to use technology, equipment, and tools to participate in experiential project-based learning. The value of the Makerspace experience is in innovation and access — the creation of new solutions to problems using technology that is accessible to all, despite academic discipline or focus.
