Biography

Dr. Stacy Fields is an assistant professor in the Department of Elementary and Special Education and serves as the Middle Level Coordinator at Middle Tennessee State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in middle grades literacy, assessment, and classroom management.

Dr. Stacy Fields is an assistant professor in the Department of Elementary and Special Education and serves as the Middle Level Coordinator at Middle Tennessee State University. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in middle grades literacy, assessment, and classroom management.

Dr. Fields holds a B.S. in Elementary Education from Union University, an M.Ed. in Teaching, Leading, and Learning from Lipscomb University, and a Ph.D. in Literacy Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. Her research centers on K-12 literacy, meta-analysis, and adolescent writing, with a particular focus on instructional strategies that support English Learners. Through her work, she aims to bridge the gap between research and practice, equipping educators with evidence-based strategies to enhance student learning.

An active voice in literacy education, Dr. Fields has shared her expertise at national and international conferences, contributing to the fields of writing engagement, disciplinary literacy, and interventions for diverse learners. Her research has been published in Reading and Writing Quarterly, The Reading Teacher, Preventing School Failure, Reading Psychology, and other peer-reviewed journals. Recognized for both scholarly innovation and community impact, she has received honors including the Womack Family Innovation in Research Award and the Heart of Service Award. Earlier in her career, she was awarded the Clouse-Elrod Education Research Award and the Herbert M. Handley Outstanding Dissertation Award for her contributions to EL adolescent writing research.

In addition to her research and teaching, Dr. Fields is dedicated to recruiting and mentoring future educators. She actively works to strengthen educator preparation programs, engaging with prospective students to highlight the impact and importance of middle-level education. As Middle Level Coordinator, she strives to create inclusive, student-centered learning environments and prepare teachers who will make a meaningful difference in their classrooms and communities.
