Information Systems, M.S.
The Master of Science in Information Systems at MTSU can put a person, with or without an IT background, on the promising path of career success and IT excellence. Most classes are offered in a highly popular innovative "50-50" delivery format, with instruction divided between face-to-face interaction and online study. There are several courses that are 100% online as well. This approach provides both personalized guidance by dedicated professors and the schedule flexibility of online teaching-learning.
Students may choose from two concentrations:
- Business Intelligence and Analytics
- IT Project Management
The job market considers MTSU graduates to be well-qualified IT professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the business environment. Whatever the level of competence going into the program, faculty members will help identify what that student needs to get where he or she wants to be. Core and elective classes may also be combined to form a strong foundation in database-related topics. The Information Systems and Analytics department offers the Master of Science in Information Systems with concentrations in IT Project Management, and Business Intelligence and Analytics. Core and elective classes may also be combined to form a strong foundation in database-related topics. The department also offers courses for the Master of Business Administration degree and a minor in Information Systems for students seeking a master's degree other than the M.B.A. Core and elective classes may also be combined to form a strong foundation in database-related topics. The Master of Science in Information Systems requires completion of 30 semester hours.

Information Systems degree helped alumnus reach his goals
"I once heard that 'not all degrees are created equal,' and I learned exactly what that meant from the first day I set foot in an analytics class. If you are thinking about pursuing the M.S. in Information Systems degree at MTSU, take that step and do it. You won't regret it. I was considering a career change and looking for a degree that would empower that transition and offer new and better opportunities. The instructors were very encouraging of my career goals, but they also challenged me to expand my goals and set even higher expectations for myself. I will always remain grateful for having crossed paths with Jones College of Business."
— Travis Tipton, Data Analyst, HCA, M.S. in Information Systems, 2017
Professor made a profound difference in student's life
Ami McFerrin earned a degree in photography from MTSU before she decided, because of her love of computers and technology, to pursue a career in Information Systems. She cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Jeff Clark, who became her advisor and "changed my life and my career." Ami says Dr. Clark was open and honest with her and extremely accessible in getting to know her and learn about her background, work ethic, and abilities. In December of 2011, two weeks before Ami graduated with an M.S. in Information Systems with a focus on Project Management, she accepted a job offer from Ingram Barge as a programmer analyst. "I've never met a professor like Dr. Clark, and because he loves his job and his students, he helped me get my foot in the door at Ingram Barge." McFerrin was promoted to the next level in about two years.
