The Department of Art is committed to providing our approximately 500 majors with the most innovative and challenging opportunities possible. Creating these possibilities means merging traditional art techniques and contemporary digital based technologies. To that end the department is asking for the following. Book Arts/Letterpress - Currently Book Arts/Letterpress does not have any computers, scanners, or printers. These items would be extremely useful for students in the classroom. The photo polymer plate maker would allow letterpress to process photographic and digital output onto letterpress plates Sculpture - The Kern HSE Laser System is an industry-leading laser cutting and engraving technology that is not currently offered in even the most recognized art programs within the country. It is a state-of-the-art piece of equipment that would not only provides recognition for MTSU and the Art Department nationally, but would also allow our graduates a greater opportunity to be competitive in applying to graduate programs and seeking employment after graduation. Graphic Design - The assorted software is needed to upgrade five-year-old software in four computer labs. The cameras and lenses are used mainly in the interactive design classes and to help graphic design students produce quality portfolios for graduation and job placement.
