MTSU students who enroll in at least one three-hour honors class per semester qualify for residence in Lyon Hall, the Honors College Living and Learning Center. Recently, LYON 139 was identified to serve as a classroom with a maximum capacity of 14 students. The Honors College would like to convert this space into a Master Classroom to attract faculty to teach and honors students to take classes in the room beginning Fall 2013. Up to 154 honors undergraduates would benefit from this classroom, and residential honors students would enjoy the convenience of taking classes in their own residential hall. The room could be also be used once or twice a week for student meetings and various workshops serving up to 56 undergraduate students. When not scheduled for honors activities, the room could be scheduled for other university purposes. The Honors College also would like to add lecture-capture capabilities in two of its Master Classrooms: the Honors Amphitheater (HONR106) and the Advanced Technology Laboratory (HONR 218). The former offers an ideal presentation space for speakers to interact with larger classes or groups of 60-65 students; the latter promotes collaborative learning for small classes of 15-20 students through its flexible design and interactive technology. On average, up to 240-250 honors and non-honors students per semester would benefit from this educational technology. The availability of lecture capture would enhance student learning by making course lectures, recorded student presentations, and guest speeches more accessible to students in a secure format.
