This request involves improving instructional technology in two classrooms and upgrading computers in two labs. The computers in two of our video editing labs are scheduled for replacement in August, however, the university’s standard replacement computers are inadequate for video editing, so additional funds are required to bring these machines up to an appropriate level of functionality. These computers are currently used in about ten classes per semester with an average of about eighteen students per class. They are also used extensively between classes for student lab work. We are requesting a replacement video projector for COMM 155, a classroom/lab that accommodates 8-10 classes per semester with approximately 20 students per class. The projector in this room is needed for critical viewing of filmed content. High luminance, color fidelity, contrast range, and high resolution are required. The current projector completely lacks these qualities. Our largest classroom with 73 seats, COMM 103, accommodates eight to ten classes per semester and is overdue for an update. EMC classes typically involve extensive use of media with a lot of switching sources, interacting with the media, and such. Equipment needs to be upgraded and the instructor station needs to be improved to better enable the instructor to both conduct a class and manage the media.
