FLL: convert BDA 303A into a discipline-specific master classroom. BDA 303A was constructed in the 1980s as the foreign language lab. The lab equipment and student stations are too outdated to meet the requirements of current teaching technology and practices. We wish to purchase the ReLANGpro language lab and learning management package and reconfigure the language lab. ReLANpro will enable faculty to engage students in interactive and group-oriented language learning on and off campus. It also allows mobile access to language learning contents created by faculty. An updated classroom configuration will allow our students and faculty to make wider use of the RosettaStone package purchased with TAF fund last year. RosettaStone requires the same computing environment as ReLANGpro, and both require the frequent use of video, audio recording, multilingual support, and student talking, which is disruptive to other lab patrons if hosted in other computer labs on campus. Political Science: Computer program STATA is a statistical package used in social science research. It is used by three members of our faculty, for our graduate course in research methods, and for particular sections of our undergraduate course in research methods. This represents about 30-40 students/year with the prospect that other faculty and courses may adopt the program. The program is made available to the students on laptop computers in our computer lab in PH 205. Beginning this year (2012-13) the Department purchased a site license for 20 users at an initial cost of $5,620 and an annual renewal cost of $1,205.
